I get so bored sometimes and with this pandemic I don't go out much. I do Facetime with my 5 yo grandson daily after his virtual preschool  classes and he gives me a update on what he learned and that conversation brings me so much joy. I am thinking about taking a onlne course rather for college credits or just educational but not sure what to take. Now I am 70 so I don't want anyting that taxes my brain to much but something interesting. So my question is has anyone taken or is currently taking a online class  and what are you taking ? Do you enjoy it.?  AARP offers some classes but I haven't seen anything interesting so far. Suggestions welcome, thanks

I don't know what you're interested in but if you are crafty or have an interest in things like that check out Craftsy. They have all kinds of classes from cooking to knitting, to paper crafts, quilting etc. I don't even know what all they have.

@Goodie2shoes

I teach on-line music courses at a community college. After all this time, I still find both (and more importantly, hopefully my students do) -- Intro to Music and American Pop -- very interesting! Mainly because I don't always stick to the textbooks. I mean, there is so much more to "the story"!

We are not a music school, so I relax some expectations. I still teach content, but students are not burdened with tons of on-line assignments.

I've had senior students, married with children, young adults and dual enrollment (high school students), so it's the gammut as far as age range.

You do not have to be a budding Beethoven. I just try to broaden thinking and listening.

It depends on the school and the Instructor, though.

Good luck finding something you would enjoy!

How about a course having to do with the history and culture in your area?  Have no idea where you live but most places have something interesting going on.

I took an Interior Design class about ten years ago.  It wasn't online, but I think it could easily be taught online.  I found it very interesting.  It depends on your interest though.  That's something I've always been interested in.

The ones I'm aware of and have participated in are all associated with Catholicism.

  • The Institute of Catholic Culture has courses, Zoom webinars, webcasts, etc.  All free.  Basically - Catholic liberal arts:  history, art, music, philosophy, etc.  Multi-sessions with authors.  I've been participating for several years.
  • Our Sunday Visitor has webinars - some one session and some seasonal (i.e. Lent, Advent).  Almost all of them are with authors of books that they have published.  Great programs, good interaction with the authors.

  • Since the beginning of the pandemic, a lot of churches have added online / zoom / webinar type programs.  My parish has seasonal online classes, and some regular monthly / weeekly programs online.

  • Catholic Distance University has courses (there is a fee)

  • Formed (another Catholic organization) has webinars.

I'm not aware of any secular organizations.

Not sure where you live, but check out Osher Lifelong Learning classes - usually affiliated with a university - but not for college credit.

Here in Northern VA, we have more than one.  I take classes through the George Mason University branch and they offer all sorts of courses from Arts, Music, Literature, History, to analysis of Supreme Court Decisions, how to play chess, lectures on all sorts of subjects, etc. etc.
