When the Cuyahoga River caught on fire in 1969, it wasn't the first time it had happened. But it was the first to grab the nation's attention. The event ended up on the front cover of TIME magazine and was mentioned in several popular songs.

Do you remember this event?

Interesting fact...this photo is from a fire in 1952

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

I do remember this.  But as an aside, during the last 25 years, on this day, I remember waiting for school to end!!!!!!

@lolakimono if you don't want any other topics of history to be mentioned in your thread why didn't you title it that way?  I would not have added mine.  I've been busy looking for more notable things to add to this thread.  I think the topic is a good idea and wanted to contribute.  It appears you dislike the fact that I added other events.

If you don't want my offering here, you're free to ask for it to be removed.  SMH

Just start a new thread. Enough room for everyone's topics and ideas. Leave out the drama for misunderstanding.  Easy enough.

Re: On This Day in History...

This event set the tone for how a lot of people have perceived Cleveland ever since.

Cleveland,  like many other rust belt cities, once booming industrial centers, faced extreme pollution, poverty, and decay. But over the decades many of these cities have made great resurgence and are vibrant and beautiful places today.

It is unfortunate that they had to call so far, before coming back.

Then I'd be accused of biggy backing.....People complain about that too.  Honestly, I'll post where I want and how I want.  I had no intention of trying to deflect her topic.  Rather, I thought it was an open topic about history @Mominohio.
