I added one more item to my suggestions...
I always look at taking action in almost every possible situation. As I read these posts, an action plan comes to mind.
1. Look around you at the various jobs people have. Open your mind to trying a totally new field. Look through all the classifieds to see the variety of jobs out there.
2. Change your expectations about which jobs you would or wouldn't take.
3. Acquire NEW skills. Take adult education classes or go to your local community college and sign up. Start with a computer course if you don't have these skills! Follow up with a writing or speaking class. Good oral and written communication skills are crucial to success in every job.
4. Work on your health and stamina. Try to eat properly and exercise EVERY day. Walk fast for at least 20-30 minutes.
5. Check with your doctor to see if you might need to take an antidepressant for a while, until what might be "situational depression" eases.
6. Take a part-time job or volunteer while you're taking classes and learning new skills. Both of these often lead to full-time positions or successful job leads.
7. Get professional help with resume' writing. There are many good books available. A generic resume' doesn't usually work. You need to write a specific resume' aimed at the specific job you are applying for!
8. Get organized at home and try to build your confidence by setting and reaching short-term goals.
9. (added 1/12/11) Work EVERY day on getting a job. From now on, getting a job is your new job!!
You're starting on a NEW path. This is going to be a NEW you. 2011 is the beginning of your NEW life!
