I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I think this opening Olympics is really LAME! I think it's sad....really bad, almost boring. I keep thinking.....they really need an American....like maybe Lin Manuel or any Super Bowl producer to show them how to create an engaging, high-energy, 1st rate show. The USA is so much better at this kind of thing.

i am about an hour and a half in this evening, but i am thoroughly enjoying the entire spectacle. i think having the athletes come in on boats is such a unique idea.....love it! really enjoying the sites of paris. also enjoying the more unusual entertainment. hope to get there to see the city within the next few years.
its going to be a fun two weeks being glued to the tv.

I thought the coverage was so horrible I turned it off. I'll watch the taped version tonight.
First, I absolutely hate the boats. I love watching the athletes march into the stadium and the crowds cheering and waving flags. Again, hate the boats.
Hated the 33 million commercials.
I watch the Olympics for the athletes and the competition. As much as I like Lady Gaga, my turning off point was her standing on the stairs behind pink feathers, singing in French. As much as I wish Celine Dion well, I don't want all the teasing for her upcoming appearance. Again, I'm watching sports. I have no idea why Kelly Clarkson, Jim Fallon and other celebs are an integral part of this massive sporting event. Give me Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gaines calling the swimming events. I'm not interested in a variety show.
I agree the coverage is horrible. I don't mind the boats but I do not like missing half the countries because they are showing and talking to the American athletes that they will talk to a hundred times before the games are over.

i am really enjoying it, but you may get your wish...... who knows?

The bone head who thought Kelly Clarkson (who I can't stand anyway) would be good at this should be fired. Yesterday.

@Love my grandkids That was her running her mouth on stupid stuff when the countries boats were passing by? I missed a lot of the countries too. The camera man needs to be fired yesterday too for giving her too much face time.
Snoop could have stayed home & done a zoom Olympic MC. I saw him for a total of 5 minutes.

I agree! She's terrible!
Silly comments when I think NBC should have provided her information regarding some of the meaning of the symbolism scattered throughout the opening ceremonies. I would also like to know what some of the buildings were as seen as a backdrop to some of the performances.
kelly has provided nothing at all to the commentary!

The French rapper was funny to me for some reason. With Celine and David Foster on the stage not much room for anything else with those egos!

The light show at the Eiffel Tower was the best part to me. Not one of the better opening ceremonies for me. I'm probably not their target audience though. We're closing in on four hours and the cauldron still hasn't been lit.
At the very least, @gardenman! I found it appallingly insulting & rude.
Try parodying any other non Christian religion with drag queens, and see the outrage.
@sabatini and @gardenman I agree with all of what you have said.
