Ok being brave today, getting some things out of the clothes closet

Found this really nice lady who is into minimalism on t.v.,  and now I'm persuaded to get rid of some clothes I haven't worn in awhile.  I may keep 2 pair of pants in case I lose some weight, and then I'll have a pair to wear and a pair in the wash. (LOL wink wink, for those who know what I'm talking about).

I think I have to do this, since my husband keeps all he has.  He just adds to it, but I don't see the closets large enough for all that. Anyway......  that's the plan.

Something has to give. LOL

We both cleaned our closets a couple of weeks ago and we came up with about 10 bags of stuff to donate. It's nice to be able to see the floor again. I'm sure I could get rid of more if I really wanted to.

I just brought 2 bags of clothing to the Salvation Army.  This goes along with the 4 bags I brought them earlier this year.  I'm sure there will be more by the end of the summer.

good for you! every time i buy something new (clothing or shoes), i make it a point to donate one, or however many new things i buy. it frees up space, and i do something good at the same time. goodwill is a block from where i live, so i always have a bag ready.

@qualitygal,  if you want any additional "decluttering" inspiration, (and have not yet done so), you might want to check out @rnmom 's excellent and ongoing "Declutter 2021-- What Have You Purged Today" thread in the "Home" forum.  Lots of good ideas, and supportive and nice posters.

My father died two years ago.  I kept his house (my parents built it in 1966) just as he had it until earlier this year.  Then I started cleaning it out, in order to sell it.  OMG!!!  It took over a month to do that, and I still haven't got to the garage yet.  Never leave this for your children - declutter, give away, sell now while you are healthy - enjoy the money.  Habitat for Humanity took all of the furniture and appliances, Goodwill got the clothes and shoes plus home decor, and librairies took approximately 600 books and DVDs.  I have already started cleaning out my house as I start their garage.  I have honestly stopped buying much of anything since I have been overwhelmed with all of this accumulated "stuff."

Re: Ok being brave today, getting some things out of the clothes closet

I don't like clutter - my husband is an amateur hoarder.  It's a constant struggle and, sometimes, a big fight to get him to toss or donate anything.   I clean out my closets twice a year, when the seasons change.  I don't buy any new clothing for myself until I get rid of old clothing.  My husband keeps buying new.   So, I put some of his clothing in the donation bag when he isn't looking.  He's never missed anything yet.

Bravo to you, @qualitygal for getting rid of stuff!
