Oh No! GMO Salmon is Here

[ Edited ]

Just read on the Associated Press website. The first GMO salmon, approved in 2015, has come to market through a Philadelphia seafood distributor. If sold by restaurant suppliers, the fish's GMO status does not have to be revealed.

No distribution yet to supermarkets because there the GMO status must be displayed.

I haven't had time to read the whole article yet. Just wanted to put it out here.

Once the cow is out of the barn there is no putting it back. Another species ruined. When will people learn?

I hope everyone is aware of just how much GMO foods we are already consuming (aside from Salmon).  Lots of veggies and fruits are GMO.

I just hope they don't come out with other fish that is GMO because I happen to like other fish (I never eat Salmon).

I love salmon but only eat wild caught - lucky I live where it is easily available.

GMO foods are an issue. I personally am very lucky to be able to buy non GMO foods at local markets. Most people do not have that luxury. I am concerned with the future of peoples health. The corn oat and soy crops are not good in most cases. If you can afford, check labels.

@PickyPicky3 @I read about this too. Good thing most grocery chains have said they are not on board with this yet.

But hey!  If they are GMO to grow twice as fast, they must taste twice as good right?

Lots of junk, injected meat in the grocery already tastes bad.  Guess that was a training run?

@DiAnne @Once the modified, farmed salmon escape from the farms and  they will mate with the wild salmon. UPDATE, Just learned from one article that this salmon will be entirely land farmed.
So far, farmed salmon (not gmo, just farmed)  have been doing this so much that biologists have published many, many studies about mixing of the farmed and wild salmon populations. This is a global problem.

"The FDA approved the AquAdvantage Salmon as “safe and effective” in 2015. It was the only genetically modified animal approved for human consumption until federal regulators approved a genetically modified pig for food and medical products in December."

So now we have gmo pork too. Probably insulin too.
