This thread is funny!  I wonder how it can be used here without getting into trouble.  LOL  Can't tell anyone to go there.  Can't talk about it in a religious sense.  I'm running out of ideas already, other than using it as an expression of exasperation.  Many of us can probably identify with that.

Telling anyone to seriously shut up is so rude.  I'd rather be told to go to hell.  Shutting up is real, the other is all imagination.  That makes a difference to my sensibilities.  ha.

so did i....... i have never liked it, probably due to that time.

 

i do not like to hear my kids saying it either.

I think it is odd that children at the school where I volunterred thought that " shut up" was worse than the "F bomb."   The bomb would just roll off of their tongue but when somone told them to shut up, they would scream like you said the worse thing ever.

 

Times have changed, for sure.
