We've been eating a quick-cooking (5 minutes) steel cut oatmeal lately. We top it with a few walnuts, sliced banana, and real maple syrup. My husband also adds some blueberries.

That's the way I like too with walnuts, banana, maple syrup, and I like cinnamon.  I use Old Fashioned Quaker.  Sometimes I'll order Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Oats.

Love oatmeal and there is no limit to what I would do for an oatmeal raisin cookie.

Soft or crispy.

We have a Zojirushi rice maker that makes it on delay over night.  And does rice and quinoa as well!

@Sooner

What model of rice maker do you have?  I've seen people rave about these, went out on the website and don't know which model to look at.  Thank you!

@Misplaced Parisian We have an expensive one (light brown) that we have had for a long time, then bought this smaller black one because it was small, less expensive, and had settings for steel cut oats and quinoa and some other things.  Can't remember the model number, but it is small and black and I think we paid about $114 for it from Amazon.

Some of their rice cookers are made in Japan, but the little black one is from China as I remember and it works fine for us!  Hope that help! We have had a rice cooker for ages and use it a lot.

@Sooner  Thank you for the information.  This helps a lot.  Everyone raves about this brand and I would like to try one.  Thanks again.  I greatly appreciate you sharing.

I make a big batch of steel cut oatmeal and eat it through the week. So its not too much trouble, I just reheat it in the microwave. I absolutely love Cream of Wheat also, which I make a big batch to eat for several breakfasts. Mmmmm!

I never eat it because of the caloric intake.

Eee Gad what kind of oatmeal are you eating? Mine is only 140 calories! I'd never eat it if it was near 400 calories!! Yikes!!

There are 150 calories in a serving of oatmeal.

Yep, it's another one of the foods that are not high in calories itself. Kinda like a potato, it ain't the potato, it's what you do to/with it before you eat it. For the nutritional value, rather low in calories. Guess some find it easier to blame the base food instead of how they doctor it up to satisfy their taste.

"quick cooking steel cut oats" is an oxymoron...IMO.

My dad hated oatmeal...called it "the S & S" for slick and slimy.  He was a cream of wheat man or any hot cereal.  Miss him too.

I'm with your father, I hate oatmeal, it is slimy,  but Cream of Wheat is good.

I eat a bowl of quick-cooking steel cut oats for breakfast every morning (cooked with water). Add organic prunes and about 1/3 piece of banana. One of the first things I could digest after my gastric problems. Oatmeal was key in helping me regain the weight I lost.

i never ate oatmeal as a child and was surprised I could like it.
