I just love the sound of his flapping arms.
The guy has won more gold medals than some countries.
I do not think it mattered who his "opponent" was. He wanted to regain the title he lost. If you listen to MP's recent interviews, his only opponent is the Michael Phelps of the London Olympics.
Watching him during our National Anthem, you could see the emotion on his face. Hearing his friends prevented him from breaking down.

I think that coming in first was showing him that he still had it.

I don't think people are arguing about it. I think some are expressing that he might have taken the win in a classier, more humble way and others are saying he was right to shove it back in LeClos' face.
Personally, I think acknowledging LeClos at all was giving him (LeClos) power (over Phelps). Best to ignore immature behavior and rise above it. It would have showed LeClos that he wasn't important enough to garner any attention. MO

I agree. I feel the same way about acknowledging baiting threads on this BB.

I found it troubling that he was shaking his fist at his opponent after he came in first.
Poor sportsmanship. It was also troubling that he was laughing at something going on in
the arena during the playing of the National Anthem.
@gmkbI just read about the laughing on AOL. Apparently, some friends from the hometown came. In their home town, they always over sing the "O" in honor of the Baltmore Orioles when they get to "OH! Say can you...". He heard them singing way off where he was and appreciated his friends came.

@ECBG Thank you for this information. Sunshine45 also mentioned this in an earlier post. It is good to know he was not being disrespectful, but was acknowledging hometown friends.

Michael Phelps is amazing! Been a fan of his for years. About thinking he was taunting that other swimmer. That "other" guy has been dancing and exercising in front of Phelps and making snide comments to him and about him. So I guess Phelps showed him! lol. And as far as Phelps bragging, I'd brag too if I had that many medals!

EDITED TO CORRECT NAME - So sorry I goofed!
Not to hijack this thread, but in case people haven't seen -
There is now a "thing" on social media because Gabby Douglas didn't place her hand over her heart during the playing of the national anthem at the gold medal ceremony. as her teammates did. People are ripping her apart for this!
Sheesh!
When I was growing up, we did the hand over heart thing for the Pledge of Allegiance, not the national anthem. As an adult no one did this at public/sports events until about 20 years ago, but it's always been a choice for athletes, not mandatory - same as whether you mouth the words or not. It's never meant, in my memory, that you care any less or "sending a message" if you don't do it. I still don't do it, because nobody did it when I was young - and I don't see "everyone" doing it at public events now, either.
Tempest in a teapot, too many people with nothing better to nitpick.

Can you (in general) do what he did? You also choose to ignore the back story. Whatever...
Nope I can't. I don't judge while I sit my fat butt on the couch eating ice cream ![]()

This was actually Gabby Douglas (not Simone Biles).
