DALLAS - State lawmakers are considering a bill that’s sure to anger soda lovers.
The measure would enact a penny per ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages sold in grocery and retail stores.
The so-called soda tax would raise the price of a 20-ounce bottle of soda by 20 cents and increase the cost of a 12-pack nearly $2.
Money from the tax would go to the state’s general fund.
