My Dad was an accountant. He did us kids (7 kids) taxes every year with love.

I worked with my Dad for 9 years and learned a lot from him. I kept the tradition,and offer tax prep to my kids with the same love as my Dad did. Paying it forward.

One year I was sick and had them get them done elsewhere. This was before the days of computer programs, when one had to actually use paper, pencil and a calculator! It cost them $150. - $175. even back then.

My neighbor was saying she had to have hers done just because she worked so many hours and just couldn't find the time, nor did she want the stress. Cost her $700.!!! Not a complicated filing either.

I make sure they are involved. I explain when they ask a question. They are interested in learning, and I know they will eventually do their own. TaxAct is only $50. and they pay it with their own credit card.

I like doing them. I love math, it makes me think of my Dad while I am working, and I have the time. I know when they do their own they will know what they are doing because I explain "why" for every piece of paper I need from them if they forgot any.

I remember and thank my Dad for teaching me. How can I not pass it on? Maybe some day they will do it for their kids. Of course, in this new age tech world, taxes will probably be zapped to the IRS in a way not even invented yet when their kids need teaching
