Re: OJ Simpson has died

[ Edited ]

I went back yesterday on youtube and watched again the Prime Time when Diane Sawyer interviewed the entire Brown family.  The trial was going on so they could not talk about any of that, it was just more of Nicole the woman.

I had forgotten they did not know that she was battered she had kept it from them very well.  What was really hard watching was her Mom hoping O.J. had not done the crime.  O.J. had been a big part of their family for many years.  Plus the two had just the spring before the murders tried to reconcile and it did not work.

Just painful watching that families pain and the home movies of Nicole.

I'm not at all surprised that this has dominated almost all media outlets for the past 24 hours.

It was a breaking Special News Report on several networks.

A leading story on the nightly news, broadcast and cable.  Major coverage on the morning shows, all across the board,  cable and broadcast.

It was called "The Trial of the Century."

People are drawn to remember it, the chase, the arrest, the trial,  the verdict.  Understandable.

It was during OJ’s trial & subsequent verdict that I questioned our justice system. Most of us could not afford “The Dream Team” to get us off. The public did not see the brutal photos of the victims but the jury did & I don’t understand how the members of the jury could acquit him. He was very charismatic as most sociopaths are.

The jury was mostly Black.

@CJC What exactly is your point? Perhaps were it not for the blatant lying and racism of the lead detective he would have been convicted.

Re: OJ Simpson has died

It wasn't just about race or racism. The prosecutors did not do a good job. And Simpson had the money to hire his 'dream team" and the jury consultant.

One of the jurors said they knew that glove belonged to OJ, but once he tried it on complete with his acting job and the fact that it had shrunk, well that handed reasonable doubt to the jury. That and putting Fuhrman on the stand. And the bungling crime scene technicians and evidence collection. And the judge. And Simpson's money and celebrity.

So many factors allowed the jury to do what they did.

I agree that the prosecution was faulty and made enormous mistakes.

And the defense was brilliant,  living up to the "Dream Team" moniker, pointedly playing to the jury, which the prosecution generally ignored.  And the final jury was also overwhelmingly female.  I always wondered what role that did or did not play.

Re: OJ Simpson has died

I remember watching the verdict come down live over the Oprah Winfrey show.  A lot of division was shown even there in the audience.  I thought that years later when he wrote the book, it was smug and unnecessary to put salt in the wounds of the family members.  If he was innocent, and loved her, why would he even bring it up again that way.  It was always about power, money and fame.  Not about caring for anyone else.

edited to add...and no, I did not think he was innocent.

Two months ago in a NELKBoys podcast, OJ replied to the statement made by Shaq

The football legend and acquitted murderer made the remark on an episode of the 'It Is What It Is' podcast, after being asked about Shaquelle O'Neal claiming that 'men shouldn’t open up to women (because) they’ll use it against them.'

'When you say ‘open up to women,’ I don’t know what he’s talking about,' Simpson said with a smile. 'Is he talking about confessing? Then no man, don't confess.'

The podcast clip resurfaced in the wake of Simpson's death on Thursday aged 78, as people remarked on his bizarre antics in the years after the murders - also including satirically, pretending to stab a newscaster in 1998.

(But when he sat down for an interview with the BBC, Wax remarked that he was ;'the most complicated character on earth,' as she showed a behind the scenes look at Simpson playing a 'joke' on her.

'After we finished filming, Simpson said to me that he has a surprise for me - and I genuinely was surprised,' Wax said. 'I think it was his idea of a joke.'
In a bizarre video clip, Simpson pretends to stab Wax with a banana while making a screeching noise as he grinned at the camera. )

In the podcast clip, a host first threw the question to Simpson for his thoughts on Shaq's claim that women would 'use it against (men)' if they opened up to them.

Simpson leaned into the screen and grinned as he made the joke about 'confessing', adding: 'I think he's right.

'Don’t say nothing. It was your lying eyes. So, leave me out of the confessions… You all got to leave me out of this one.'

The podcasts' hosts saw the funny side, and burst into laughter for around a minute as they appeared stunned that the accused killer would make the remark.

'Yoo, oh no, no confession,' one of the hosts said through laughter. 'No confession... oh my goodness, this is classic.'

@Puppy Lips Imagine that the jury looked at the evidence, found reasonable doubt and voted for acquittal. Perhaps you should turn your admonishment to the detective that made a career of "making it about something else" at the expense of those he was paid to protect and serve.
