I have a pinched nerve in my neck. This all started back on December 7th. I went to the ER then and I had my neck x-rayed. I found out that I have bone spurs on my spine and one of them is pinching a nerve in my neck. Back then, when my regular doctor looked at my x-ray he wanted to send me to a neurologist. He told me that it really looked bad and he thought I would need surgery. I did research online and found out that the surgery I needed is rather risky. Many people that had it done either had no improvement and some wound up in a wheel chair. I told my doctor I didn't want to deal with it with Christmas and New Years coming on and I asked for a pain med. instead. He gave me a prescription for a muscle relaxer. The muscle relaxer and Aleve's helped me get by. Then the pain went completely away in the end of January.
Well, the pain came back on April 10th. I went back last Thursday to my regular doctor and I told him that I thought it was time to see a neurologist. I'm going to the hospital at 4:30 this afternoon for a MRI and lab work for a goiter on my neck that I've had since I was around 6 months old. It's barely noticeable, but my doctor wanted to have it checked out. Then, on Monday I go to see a neurologist in Springfield. I'm 57 and I have never drove in a city. My husband does most of the driving, but he's working out of town and is only home on weekends. I'm on facebook and I had 3 fb friends offer to take me. One of them is taking me to my MRI appointment today in Jacksonville. My husband is going to try to get off Monday to take me to Springfield.
I'm asking you all to please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Oh, and I want Sammycat to know that I still check in on sweet Mr. Schmoo. But, I haven't been able to post for quite sometime. I'm right handed and it's hard to type. The pain starts in the back of my neck and shoots over to my shoulder and goes all the way down to my right hand. From the elbow down to my hand and fingers I have a combination of numbness, tingling, and pain. Some days the pain is worse than others. Sorry, this is so long. I didn't mean to write a novel. TIA!!!
Cheryl
