We're at a point where we really need to get our finances together but the financial markets and investing is something I know little about (the basics, I guess). DH has a 401K and we each have a Roth IRA but we haven't changed distribution in years (based on what a financial rep at our bank recommended). I've been looking on-line and called a couple local Financial Planners and the avg fee seems to be about 1% of your total portfolio per year. Does anyone use one of the big firms like Charles Schwab?; local company? or do you just take care of it yourself? I think we need to get some professional advice but DH is loathe to pay someone a % because, of course, there are no guarantees in the market. We're probably 10 yrs from retiring (hopefully). Your recommendations and experience would be appreciated.
