Make sure all windows (glass) are covered, and open your windows. The bird should be able to 'sense' the fresh air and fly out.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

The bird spent the night in the house. It was in the kitchen this morning. I opened the patio door in the dining room and moved the bird in that direction. He very cooperatively flew right out the door. I was so relieved. Guess I'll have to add ""butterfly net"" to my wish list.

Kachina: If you don't actually see the bird to determine exactly what kind it is, you could call the fire department I think (but not at the emergency line?). I've heard that bats can have rabies, so if something's flying around and you don't know for sure what it is, it wouldn't hurt to call them. I'm not sure if they would respond to such a call, but if it's a bat I wouldn't mess around with it.
