Not happy with Amazon

[ Edited ]

Hmmmm...not very happy with Amazon Prime Day. We had our eye on an item. The price was $374.99 AND there was also extra coupon for another 20%. We looked at a couple of other similar items throughout the day. When we went back to order it, the 20% coupon was gone. So, we decided to wait a bit and try again. Checked on it several times, and then there was a 5% coupon. Huh? Went back in a little later and the 5% coupon was gone. Kept checking it throughout the day and evening, and a coupon never reappeared. What's up with that Amazon?

I've seen this happen before. It's called dynamic pricing. Amazon changes prices frequently throughout the day.

So now when I see something I want at a great price,  I buy it immediately.

I bought a Frye bag on Prime day. It was $99 when I bought it, a few hours later it was $109 then it went back up to $178 later in the day. I got it the next day and love it. Glad I got it when it was on a great sale.

Frequently (not just "prime time") when I've been looking at something at Amazon ...  a few hours / day or so later .....there's an email with a "deal."

I'm very happy with Amazon!

I'm not happy with how prime day went for me either. Was going to get something but when I tried to, the deal was no longer available even though prime day was still happening so I didn't bother with anything else.

If it was a lightning deal, they only last so long or until the quantity is sold out. If you put it in your cart you only have 15 minutes to check out.

I keep stuff in my saved items and Alexa always alerts me if they go on a lightening deal or sale. I have saved a bunch of money doing this. It will pick up your wish list as well. I have my kids keep a running wish list. If Alexa alerts me of a sale, I buy it as an I Love You gift.

Sounds like some of the 'deals' I see talked about here - about the Q.  Price ends at the end of the day......going up tomorrow.....price will be higher in an hour......

Just an observation..........

@ThinkingOutLoud Some items were on Lightning Deals.  The deal starts and ends at a certain time and there is a limited number, so if that number is reached the deal ends.  That should show somewhere in the item description.

I had no plans to buy anything specifically for Prime Days, but had several things in my list I was planning on buying after my credit card rolled over to the next month and it happened to fall on Prime Days.  I got a notification that something in my list ,but not something I planned to buy at this time, was going to be a Lightning Deal.  It was already discounted about $10 for Prime Days so I was thinking I might go ahead and buy it if the Lightning Deal dropped the price another $20.  When I checked on it after the Lightning Deal started it was exactly the same price it had been the night before.  I could see that it was a Lightning Deal and that 7% had been claimed on the descripton page. I didn't buy it.  I did get a notice from some extension I have that I could get it for about $20 cheaper on Ebay though, so I'm going to check into that.

There are sites that will notify you when there is a price drop on an item in your list and about Lightning Deals which I think they have throughout the year on random items. I don't know if any of them notify you if they have an instant coupon though.  I just started using Keepa a couple of days ago.  It also puts a graph in the descripton page showing the price history for the item.  Another popular one is Camel Camel Camel.

It wasn't a lightening deal to my knowledge but perhaps it was after all. Never saw it touted that way. I'll know for next time.
