My claustrophobia and fight or flight instincts kick in just looking at the sea of humanity all crushed together. No way to get out.
I’ll sit here in my recliner wearing my “go no further than the mailbox in them” leggings and bunny slippers. With plenty of space around me.
I am with you!! I walked into a sea of humanity at Wegmans this afternoon and had to fight my brain that said Run! Ball Drop, uh no.

I have no interest in going to NYC to see the ball drop either. I'll be home asleep way before midnight in my nice warm bed.

when i was younger i might have wanted to go if i happened to be in NYC, but these days we don't even go out locally for new years. we feel much more comfortable staying in on new years eve. we don't watch the ball drop either.

@Texasmouse wrote:@gidgetgh what you said!
I'll add to that what DH says... "What happens if you're in that crowd and you suddenly urgently need to go to the restroom?"
@Texasmouse I'd ike to know that too! Oh la la.

@gidgetgh I have leggings like those...love them as they are so comfy! I'll be joining you from my couch, wrapped in a quilt sipping some bubbly. Happy New Year!

I totally agree with all of you. Never, never would I have ever considered going there.
As far as peeing. Don't be surprised if some of those people wear diapers. Yepper, diapers. You'd be surprised at how many people do things like that just for that reason.
Of course teenagers don't think of it, they're invincible, but say, 30 somethings might think of it. Just while they're there.
Eating and drinking....the cold, it would make you feel like you need to pee! Ha!
I can't imagine standing there for that long. I get bored so easily anyway, and standing there looking at the back of someone's head for all that time....I'd go bonkers, I'd start counting the hairs on their head....Ha!
I mean really, what is there to do? You can only yell "Yea" but so many times! Ha!
It's amazing how quickly they clear them out! Where in the heck to all those people go?
I watch Investigation ID reality people missing and killed and I remember seeing one show in particular where a girl went missing from that crowd. How would one even start to find out about her?
I'm glad though that there are still people who want to do things like that. I just like the idea of people who want to go there and experience it.
That's something my late husband would want to do...no way would he get me there.
Much smaller area, etc, but every freaking year we had to go to Washington, DC to see the fireworks live on the Mall. I hated it because we had to run to get to the Metro and beat the crowd. One thing about me I hate running, I mean I really HATE it, and he couldn't leave me, (my girls would be yelling, "Wait for mom! Wait for mom". Ha! He'd huff and puff but he'd grab me by the hand and pull me along.
Anyway, those were some pretty big mobs at different years, not like there but still large crowds. We'd have to get right up there deep in the people. Oh! What memories!
So now my oldest daughter goes with her husband and 4 kids every year. When my other daughter was here she lived about 10 minutes from there and would go.
More power to all the people who actually enjoy it. I enjoy watching them enjoy like many of you.
I guess I'm a people watcher...maybe that's a good way of saying it.
If any of you are ever in the DC area on the 4th of July you should go at least once. You see many fireworks that you don't see on the air. It used to be that way, don't know now. It is an amazing sight.

I have lived in NYC my whole life and have never gone to Times Square on NYE. No desire and won't ever go. I'll be very happy watching from my nice warm living room with the fireplace on.

Well, I have to confess that I went one year. It was a looong time ago, late sixties. It was totally different then. Not nearly as many people. You could walk around, no mobs, cafes and restaurants open, no claustrophobia, etc. Nothing was blocked off.
My boyfriend and I were excited as drinking age in NY was 18 so after the ball dropped, we thought we would get a drink. We then found out for NYE you had to be 21.
