So, I had a whole reply to an existing thread and when I went to post it, a red note said the thread was no longer active.
I am posting it here, because I really wanted to have an intelligent conversation...no bashing. Is this possible?
Here is the post I had tried to post on the other thread:
I don't have anything against the Duggars. Sure, their lifestyle is not what I would choose, but it's their life.
I had some time, so I watched a couple of episodes on On Demand, so I made a couple of observations. Did any of you see the episode that showed Michelle doing a talk in front of a group of young mothers? I actually paused on her hand-printed list of things to say that she had on the podium. About midway it says "Mothers are Servants" whose purpose is to cook, clean, etc... Well, she has taught her daughters to follow in her footsteps because they all do all the work in the house now. So we're SERVANTS! She has set women back hundreds of years! This is not a bash--it is a FACT! How are we supposed to expect men to treat us as equals when one of our "sisters" "preaches" this?! Remember...she is also raising sons who are growing up believing that women are servants and it will be O.K. to treat their future wives as such.
This same episode showed the kids taking swimming lessons. One of the boys (maybe Jackson?) explained how the girls wear "wholesome wear" and Michelle explains that they dress this way because "eyes don't need to go places they have no business being" (paraphrasing). Seriously, the girls are swimming in dresses! It's like what they wore in the Roaring Twenties. I keep waiting for one of these girls to rebel against this stuff, but I am beginning to believe they are like brainwashed robots at this point. Again, I am not bashing. This is really how it looks. They are nice girls and are smart and talented. It just seems to me that most young girls would stand up for themselves at some point. I was not a rebellious teen at all, but I can tell you I would have refused to wear that swim dress!! I guess this is all they know.
