Free Friday for March 7, 2014

The Tycoon and the Texan

March 7, 2014: Today’s Free Fridays book selection is THE TYCOON AND THE TEXAN by Phyliss Miranda.

With a name like Nick Dartmouth, and the fortune it comes with, it’s hard not to have a reputation for getting everything you want. So when his former secretary steps onto his foundation’s charity auction block, Nick has the perfect opportunity to woo the stunning beauty from Texas. But aggressive counterbids force him to make an extreme proposition. Except money itself doesn’t guarantee a blissful ride off into the sunset, especially when being won goes against the willful nature of McCall Johnson. Intent on showing Nick they come from two very different–and incompatible–worlds, she’s surprised by how well he can handle a horse. For a girl from Texas, that speaks volumes about a man’s value. Maybe there’s more to this playboy than she expected….

(NOTE: I thought it might be cute, but most of the reviews were bad, so I guess I'll pass.)

Thanks for your posts! Looks like Barnes & N. are giving up when it comes to our Nooks.

Today's Free Fridays selection is "The W-i-c-k-e-d Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne." (a witty historical romance)

By night, Ellie Vyne fleeces unsuspecting aristocrats as the dashing Count de Bonneville. By day she avoids her sisters’ matchmaking attempts and dreams up inventive insults to hurl at her childhood nemesis, the arrogant, far-too-handsome-for-his-own-good, James Hartley.

James finally has a lead on the villainous, thieving Count, tracking him to a shady inn. He bursts in on none other than “that Vyne woman” — in a shocking state of dishabille. Convinced she is the Count’s mistress, James decides it’s best to keep your enemies close. Very close. In fact, seducing Ellie will be the perfect bait….

I used to really look forward to seeing what the Free Friday selection is each week. Not so much anymore. I don't think the new person doing the picks has the same variety in choices as the previous guy did. Anyhow, thanks for posting these!

ceekay - I couldn't agree with you more! I guess it's OK if you're huge fan of this genre they keep bringing us, but I liked it when they had more of a different selection each week.

I also agree. Way too many romance novels which aren't my cup of tea, but I keep checking anyway. Maybe one of these days, they'll surprise us, as I've gotten some really good freebies in the past from the Free Fridays selections.

Today’s Free Fridays book selection is LONG TIME COMING by bestselling author, playwright, and motivational speaker Vanessa Miller. It’s a novel about faith, love, and redemption.

Deidre Clark-Morris is a faithful Christian who has everything she could dream of — except the children her heart longs for. Kenisha Smalls has lived in poverty all her life. She has three children by three different men and has just been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. While the meeting between these two women appears accidental, it becomes their catalyst of hope. Neither woman expects the blessing that God has in store for her.

Bonus Free Fridays Book:

March 21, 2014: Today’s special BONUS Free Fridays book selection is WAKULLA SPRINGS by Andy Duncan and Ellen Klages — a richly imagined sci-fi adventure about the secrets of a mysterious underwater locale.Wakulla Springs, in the deep jungle of the Florida panhandle, is the deepest submerged freshwater cave system in the world. In its unfathomable depths, a variety of curious creatures have left a record of their coming, of their struggle to survive, and of their eventual end. And that’s just the local human beings over the last seventy-five years. Then there are the prehistoric creatures… and, just maybe… something else.

Ranging from the late 1930s to the present day, WAKULLA SPRINGS is a tour de force of the human, the strange, and the miraculous.

Lost track of this thread and missed out on the free book - Bring on the Blessings. It's still available but it's now $8. There's a second book in that series too. Sounds good but doubt I'll pay $8 ea for them.
