Re: Non Essential = Disposable

The general consensus of the PTB seems that there will be more deaths as we open the country.   How about if everyone that wants it open offers up a member of their family as a sacrifice for the greater good?

The virus is not going away anytime soon.  You want to keep everything shut down indefinitely?  States are already making big cuts because of lost revenue.

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

@dex

I think we'll have a few who are hesitant at first - but given time - most people will be back to their usual life / activities.

My various groups are anxious to get back together!   Some friends and I can't wait to go out to lunch again!

How about you tell us how long we should stay closed? Not what you're comfortable with but an actual plan. When there's a vaccine, a surefire treatment, no more deaths? Do we just print money nonstop? People who want to start to reopen at least are trying to think of ways to do that safely. The keep everything closed people never say what their plan is.

How about you tell us how many families that stand to loose everything by having everything shut down forever you're personally willing to support for the next 10 years while they attempt to rebuild their lives?

And ... what about those of us who have been unable to have physical therapy or go to the gym for months?

My sister is in assisted living.  She tested positive.  They isolated her.  She recovered.  She's 74 years old.

Not everyone who "catches" the virus will die from it,  but every single one of us reading this will die within the next 100 years.

How about places open and people decide whether they want to patronize them or not.

I think if people are careful, keep washing their hands and wearing their masks, and do as much social distancing as they can, maybe things can work out.

Places are opening up.  It's not up for discussion anymore.  The only thing to be decided is how we individually handle things.

Re: Non Essential = Disposable

Sadly, I think this is going to divide us along more than party lines.

Wapo's headline today is about the coming depression.  In another article, they say that state and local pensions that haven't been managed well may be at serious risk - and go on to say that taxpayers who are already suffering should NOT have to bail them out.

It's interesting that in attacking the pension funds, they criticize people being allowed to combine unused sick leave and other leave to add to years of service - unfair they say -gauging the system.

Wow.  So now we've gone from attacking people who want to return to work to attacking those who earned legitimate pensions.

It's going to be a nasty ride.

@Isobel Archer Please explain.  I believe you are a federal retiree.  Are you federal and state pensions are in jeopardy?  Can you give me direction to further information.  Thank you.
