Non-Conservative Christian Fiction?

Or any other fiction which has a kinder, gentler tone of any genre that is not of a Conservative Christian tone? I find the few Christian fiction books I've read to be overly preachy and too narrow minded for my taste. Looking for books like Catherine Marshall's "Christy" or like "Spencer's Mountain" Contemporary or Historical fiction is fine! Thanks!
