Since this is not an emergency, you should NOT call 911-as that is only for true emergencies. You can find a general number or the number of the desk officer for your local police department, and they will help you.

Unless you are specifically TOLD to call 911. I verified it more than once and she said definitely call 911 and NOT to call the police. But, of course, that may vary depending on where you live.

Thank you again for your suggestions. Around five o'clock the loud music started up again. I took hckynut's suggestion and made noise. I don't have any speakers, so I went into my living room and started stomping around. Soon after that the music was lowered. I am hoping this was not just a coincidence.

Yes, I was thinking you could pound on the floor yourself when they, say have gone to bed. The woofer idea is great!

Sorry, I guess I'm a little confused about who you were talking to that told you to call 911. Everything I see and hear on news, police shows, documentaries, etc., say not to call 911 unless it is a real emergency and for all other problems, call the main number or, in my city, there is also a number for the desk officer. Did not mean to offend you....{#emotions_dlg.blush}

Id call the cops. I am so glad we live in a house in the country. Even though its in a country development we are not connected to other homes. But I do tend to blast my music. But NOT at night (my husbands in bed by 9 for work the next morning). Well I was from the city originally so I actually like "some" noise and sleep with a noise machine but I don't think I would like blaring music after 10 either. Because all summer long here our neighbors shoot fireworks and not just at the 4th of July. I called the cops on them once. They still do it @ times, but not late at night anymore. Good Luck!

The 911 operator told me that. I agree with what you are saying, but I was specifically told to call 911 by the 911 operator. Of course, you always want to state right up front it is a non-emergency. I had to even call back to 911 on a different date and again asked to confirm that I was to call 911 and she said yes.

Maybe my situation was different because it was a house that was keeping the entire neighborhood awake, not an apartment.

Before we purchased our first house and had to rent, we ALWAYS had noisy neighbors. I don't understand why builders don't invest a little more money to soundproof apartments. That must be the No. 1 complaint of tenants. It would sure solve a lot of problems.

If the manager is employed by a management company, go over her head and report the problem to the company, noting the manager failed to address the problem and enforce the rules.

I live in an apartment complex that has quiet hours beginning at ten o'clock at night. My neighbors below me blast their music well past this time. Last night their music was playing until one o'clock in the morning. I have told the manager about this in the past, but all she did was call the tenant and told them that I complained. This tenant then lied and said they were out of town. The manager came back to me and said I must be confused and the noise must be coming from somewhere else. I have pressed my ear to the floor and know where the loud music is coming from. I know from reading reviews online about my apartment complex that this manger becomes very defensive if anyone complains about anything (even if it's valid). It makes me wonder if she even contacted my neighbor. What would be the best way to handle this situation? Thanks in advance.

I lived above neighbors that did the same thing as you mention. Talked with them about it and they said they would turn it down a notch or two, and me an audiophile and music lover. It continued into many week nights so this is what I did.

Left the management out of it because I wanted talk with them first. Since that didn't work? It was the ole "teet for tat". Since I had a powerful system with a big subwoorfer and music with the "lowest organ note ever played"? When I was working nights(4-midnight) I would come home and about 3am turn up only the subwoofer and it would make my floor, their ceiling shake. Did this at all different hours and continuous basis and guess what?

They said something to me and I said "sure, sure I will fix it, but not until you do the same". That was the end of that problem.

John, I've had fantasies of doing what you did. Thanks for your story!

Sometimes doing this just starts a war. You have to be careful to know who you're messing with.
