Hubby and i spend our summers at a campground every year for the past 3 years. Last evening a few of us were sitting around talking and the subject of mice getting into campers during the winter came up, as this is a frequent problem for campers. What we noted is there are not mice in this campground. Knocking on wood . No one has any problem with them here. We discussed why we think this is and came to the conclusion it is the feral cats - of which there are several roaming around the campground. The owner does trap them and get them spayed or neutered but has a strict rule against anyone feeding them. You will be expelled from the campground for feeding them. I always thought that was because she didn't want to attract any more but some say it is so the cats will keep the mice and chipmunks population down if they are hungry, but not if they are being fed by the campers. The owner says if they are fed by campers all summer they won't hunt for themselves and will starve after camp closes for the winter. What ever her reason - it does seem to be working as I haven't seen any evidence of mice or moles or chippies here.Unfortunately we have tons of rabbits that keep eating my flowers.
