@FiddleDeeDee wrote:This is what happens when your kids can't get to a Dentist (or you) for almost a year and a half due to COVID:
*one has 10 cavities but NO plaque or gum disease due to great brushing. It's because he has a small mouth and teeth are very tight (common).
*one needs his all his wisdom teeth removed and it's going to be bad because the roots and teeth are somehow combined with the tooth in front of each wisdom tooth. Heavy plaque. Oh and 3 baby teeth are stuck and need to be removed.
*one has a tooth growing in sideways. So now we he needs oral surgery and additional work done.
*I need my gums scraped and filed and rinsed and don't know what else
*one has 5 cavities; 2 in two teeth, one in tooth. How?
EVERY issue (even removing the wisdom teeth) could have been handled by the dentist HAD we been going every 6 months but since they shut down, no care. My nephew will have to have his braces redone as he had no adjustments for almost 2 years due to his orthodontist closing for 16 months. Parents are furious. But he's not the only kid in that situation.
Beyond that mess, what water pic do you all suggest? TIA.
@FiddleDeeDee @I think you'd be wise to get a second opinion. I get the feeling that you're being taken. Ask a few friends for referrals and don't take all the kids with you to each dentist. Don't reveal what your dentist told you to the other dentists. Something seems fishy.

@Mindy D I was thinking the same thing. @FiddleDeeDee may be thinking the problems were caused by delaying their dental visits, but they may be at least partly due to changing dentists. It's possible that their old dentist was negligent or that the new one is overly ambitious.
When we moved from one state to another when I was little, our new dentist told my mom that I had 14 cavities and needed 4 baby teeth pulled. I had 7 cavities filled and 2 teeth pulled on each of 2 visits. It was awful! I later discovered the teeth shouldn't have been pulled and I ended up needing braces because of it.

My dentist was open for emergencies only when covid started. I was scheduled a week after for cleaning when he shut down. I should call to see if he is open for all services now.

Our dentists were not closed all this time. Only for a couple of months in the beginning, and they were available for emergencies all along.
The cost (not talking monetary here) of all these shut downs has only just begun to be seen in people's health. This is why so many have rallied against such long and complete shut downs. Much more harmful than is being seen/reported.

Try looking at GoodRx. I lost alot of insurance benefits when my husbands job went away in Dec. I take many presription drugs a month and thought I would check the Good Rx. It saved me literally hundreds of dollars a month and they charge nothing for their plan. I love it and you can go online and put the rx in and see what they cover and they allow you to choose any store or pharmacy you want. I use Walmart called them and told them I had GoodRx they added it to my acct and everything is figured out before I get there and it is no hassle at all. They are saving me 700.00 a month. I truly love them and so thankful! Anyone can use them whether you have other ins or no ins or Medicare~!Good luck

@Mominohio I totally agree. I go to a periodontist every 3 months. Got in right before our shutdown and made it after another 3 months thank goodness. Hygenist's were limited and I booked my appointments that day through the rest of this year.
I called my Primary today and he is booked through September too. I couldn't believe it.
Stay safe, make your appointments now everyone.

I was in the next chair over from a kid who drank a lot of soda. They were saying to his mother that issue with soda is if you drink it without eating anything it's really bad for your teeth. It's not about brushing regularly or flossing. It's what the soda does to your teeth when you just drink it all day without food. It eats away at the enamel.
The kid had something like 16 cavities and the bid concern was the enamel loss.

@FiddleDeeDee I read your post and wondered if your were at my dentist office today. I was in the lobby waiting for my cleaning...three kids were sitting there after having had their cleanings..comparing how many cavities they had...one kid had 11...the other two had like 8 and 9 each😳 Their mother was talking to the receptionist about financing....poor lady..🙁

Heard on the news last week that some survey said alot of people were spending their covid stimulus money on dental procedures . Sorry for all your children' s dental prpblems, so over whelming

All my dentists have always said that a waterpic is ONLY a useful add on to a good flossing.
It is good to start kids young with the floss, then it becomes a habit.
