This is what happens when your kids can't get to a Dentist (or you) for almost a year and a half due to COVID:
*one has 10 cavities but NO plaque or gum disease due to great brushing. It's because he has a small mouth and teeth are very tight (common).
*one needs his all his wisdom teeth removed and it's going to be bad because the roots and teeth are somehow combined with the tooth in front of each wisdom tooth. Heavy plaque. Oh and 3 baby teeth are stuck and need to be removed.
*one has a tooth growing in sideways. So now we he needs oral surgery and additional work done.
*I need my gums scraped and filed and rinsed and don't know what else
*one has 5 cavities; 2 in two teeth, one in tooth. How?
EVERY issue (even removing the wisdom teeth) could have been handled by the dentist HAD we been going every 6 months but since they shut down, no care. My nephew will have to have his braces redone as he had no adjustments for almost 2 years due to his orthodontist closing for 16 months. Parents are furious. But he's not the only kid in that situation.
Beyond that mess, what water pic do you all suggest? TIA.

Hopefully, you have dental insurance.

I love using WaterPik and think it makes all the difference.
I have always used a WaterPik brand one. My current one has been my fav because not only does it work great, as they always have, but it came in colors. Of course, I got a black one!
Tired of everything being white, as I don't really care for that color.
There are so many models and I guess other companies are making similar type products but I just stick with WaterPik brand.

@FiddleDeeDee Wow!! I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't understand why your dentist was closed this whole time. Where do you live? Were all the dentists in your area closed? My dentist reopened last summer. DH & I were able to go in September & again a couple of weeks ago.
I use a WaterPik.

Surprised your dentist was closed for so long. I haven't missed my 6 month check up since this pandemic began. Except for the first few months, she has always been open.

@FiddleDeeDee I went every 6 months from the time I was three and had the deal with wisdom teeth having to be surgically removed and chipped off the bone; a tooth growing in wrong angle that was removed surgically AND an abcess.
It happens whether you go or not but is expensive and painful and I feel very sorry for anyone going though this! Best wishes to all of you!

Sorry, no suggestions, but OUCH!
I'm in fear of going myself.

Hi Everyone!!
Ok. Looks like the brand WaterPic is the one to stick with. I'll research what they offer and go from there.
Our county shut DOWN and I mean dentists and orthodontists were NOT seeing patients for almost a full year. The timing of everything worked against us. We were all due for our 6 month appointments when MD/our county shut down offices. So, our appointments were gone. I knew that there were going to be some dental issues and called the office but the reply was simply "sorry, we won't take the risk. Our choice". Remember that we moved to Florida in August and with the case load being so high, we were NOT going to take a chance down here at that time.
That brings us up to January of this year. When we finally received our dental card (don't ask), I started calling around for a dentist; most don't take our insurance. Found one that did (small, not a chain and well liked), the first opening began last week. DH can't get in till mid-May, so it ain't over yet. Total time 1 year, 7 months since our last visit. I contacted my dentist back in MD for records and discovered they are only open half the time due to the numbers and because their staff prefers it that way. In-laws have had a tough time getting in due to not wanting to be seen until they received both shots and now everyone is calling for appointments.
Oh, did I mention that each 3 ounce tube of Rx toothpaste is $50, not covered by insurance? Yeah, not sure I'm going to pick them up.
The good news is that dental insurance IS covering 80% of everything and all our basic cleanings were covered 100%. We will have met our deductible after this first round of procedures so bring on the dental care going forward for the year, lol.
