Sorry Scottie, just how I feel. This information has been out there. People are just choosing not to evaluate it, but rather discount it, argue with it...everything but listen to it and try to learn from it.

Exactly.

I just got home so I missed it. However, I do think it is very sad that someone like Dr. Fauci has to take the time out from an extremely busy schedule at this time to address this from a public platform. Goodness only knows this man is busy with his normal schedule and responsibilities, let alone now dealing with ebola and entervirus 68. So now he has to take the time to "reassure" the pubic. Geez.

I would wager that what he said is no different than what has been posted on the credible professional websites for days now. And no different than what other public health officials have said as well.

And a major part of this is that people don't know what they don't know but all of the sudden they become experts on something to point the finger and claim all kinds of things. It is sad really.

Even posts here illustrate that. People don't understand the difference between isolation and quarantine. Some posters here are outraged or questioning why the high probability contacts aren't in isolation? Well, if you understood the difference one would know why. It is no big secret and it is the same for all infectious diseases, including ebola.

Then we have a post about speaking with a "friend" that is a md specializing in infectious disease and he said......viruses mutate rapidly and a vaccine won't work. Well, either there was quite a bit lost in translation of that conversation or the doc is questionable himself. News break....there are different types of viruses. There are RNA, DNA, single-strand, double-strand, viruses. The list goes on and on. Some viruses mutate quickly, others not so much. Another news flash....influenza viruses mutate very quickly. Long story, short.....they know that, they adjust the vaccine. I am by far not an expert in virology, but that is even basic public health information.

The amount of misinformation on these types of threads is hard to even quantify. In my opinion, this far exceeds what we saw when HIV/AIDS came on the scene. Maybe because of the internet and social media? I don't know.

I do know one thing ....your calm and measured posts are welcome here by many of us. As I posted on another thread, your input here on health and wellness is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Pitdakota, for your factual posts.

Surely you don't think the entire country is boiled down to what goes on here and on other social media?

These people took to the stage to try to reassure the millions of people in this country who are confused by the conflicting information everywhere.

Personally I think that is time well spent.

There will always be conflicting information. Always. It is the nature of the beast. And there will never be 100% agreement on any one thing, period. And I don't mean just medicine, public health, or health. 100% of civil engineers won't ever agree on any one thing.

And the news media above all is what perpetuates conflicting information in many cases. Yet knowing that, so many are willing to take something from the press that has not be verified and just run with it.

In the meantime, these individuals need to concentrate on the work at hand.

We didn't need a news conferences from the NIH when we brought Nancy and Dr. Brantley for treatment in Atlanta. Remember how some were just so convinced that they would be at risk for an outbreak of ebola because of that? And how so many people were stating that they should be kept in Africa since they could get the same treatment there? {#emotions_dlg.blink} smh

With all due respect you are not being reasonable here. This case in Texas and the other possiblities are entirely different than the heroic Dr. Brantly.

Why you would shake your head at our governmental officials trying to alleviate the fears of the people of this country is truly mystifying to me. You are usually much more compassionate. I am not talking about the people on viewpoints or facebook. I am talking about the masses here.

You are not thinking about this in terms of the millions of people in this country who don't do social media. People who don't have your education.
