Not to mention exploited by their employers.

Sadly, that too...

Re: New York Raises Minimum for Tipped Workers...

I was shocked when I moved to the US and heard that servers did not make minimum wage.....what is the point of minimum wage if one segment of the working population is valued differently and paid so much less simply because they work in an industry where tipping is common???? As for low food pricing passed on to the diners....seriously?....last time my DH and I ate out in a popular chain restaurant it cost us 55 bucks for appetizer and dinner for two and that did not include the tip we left for our waiter. So IMO those cheap wages do not and did not guarentee cheaper meals.

Re: New York Raises Minimum for Tipped Workers...

I have yet to encounter any fast food worker that deserves fifteen bucks an hour, which is what they are picketing and advertising here that they want.

Maybe if they had decent customer service skills as well as math etc..then I would be more open to it.

I understand it is a fast food place..but still they are taking my money..I expect my order to be correct..I expect some semblance of customer service with interpersonal skills and math skills..a PLUS!

When I order a Chicken McNugget Happy Meal with apple slices, and milk I don't expect to get home and find a hamburger.

I have yet to go thru drive thru and get my order correct. I use it often as I love Sweet Tea and grab one often when am out and about and will treat my grandson to a Happy Meal on occasion. I am on the road a lot so I am often going thru the drive thru for something quick to drink..and at times eat. This isn't just McDonald's but Burger King and Wendy's. I have to pull over and look at my stuff to make sure it is correct. I got home the other day and the milk was missing..

They need to provide some intense training if they are working with the publc.

as for the tipped workers. I am sure it will result in prices going up on meals...which will result in fewer people eating out..which will result in a loss of profit. Total domino affect.

I will still tip accordingly but I don't want to hear any complaints about the poor waitress.
