 Just saw on the news that  various retailers  are charging return fees of  all items   . 

customers  sometimes wore  items then return .

Macy's is charging a $9.99 

TJ Max return fee  $ 11.99

Marshalls $11.99 , 

JC Penny $8.00,

 J Crew $7.50

H & M $ 3.99

American Eagle $5.00

I just saw the same story and the way I understood it was the fee is if you return by mail.

Macy's charges a $9.99 return shipping fee for online orders sent back by mail if you're not a Star Rewards member; this fee is waived for members and for all items returned in-store, which remains free.

Good, too many people buy things use or wear them and the return them.

@deeva.  I rarely return anything, never have worn and returned anything.  I won't buy from a store that charges such a fee.

I'm always surprised by how many people buy an item in multiple sizes, planning on returns.

It's really not anything new.  Many retailers have  been charging a "re-stocking fee" for years.

I applaud retailers of all sorts for starting to do this.

Free or low fee returns have encouraged excessive buying (multiple sizes, different colors) leading to costly returns.  These abuses make everything more costly for all of us, whether we return or not.  

The National Retail Federation reports that excessive returns are crippling to many retailers.
