SPOILER ALERT:
YOU, the user, have 100% control over what you see.
It's not the 'portal'....FaceBook/Twitter/etc.
It's who you choose to associate with.
Funny to see people make this sweeping declaration saying
Facebook & Twitter is 'toxic'...and I even heard 'cesspool'.
in another thread. That says more about the user than it does
about the social media platform.

@sidsmom , Did you read my post ? I took responsibility for engaging, and I simply won't do that anymore. I have seen some of the worst of society represented in SM comments.

Why would anyone have these toxic people as your friends? I have all of 32 friends on FB. These are close friends and family. None get toxic. I had one friend who posted political posts and religious ones. I didn’t want to defriend her but I have hidden her posts so they don’t appear on my page.
If one of my friends posted something that created nasty posts, I would either hide their posts or defriend them.
I guess I am lucky that my family and friends are not toxic.
Everyone can control what comes on their page. I am also on the FB page for my town. Learn what’s going on, lost pets, road closures, etc.

Yes, I did.
Curious tho....what is a 'nasty portal?'

I've only had to unfriend 3 people in 10 years.
One was too mean and nasty.
Another was getting stalkerish.
The third was having medical issues - started a $20,000 fundraiser on FB looking to cover his medical bills and then he would post that he was a fast food place 3 or 4 times a week or at Target and Walmart buying clearance toys he thinks will be collectors items.
If I don't like what's being posted or said I will put a person on snooze for 30 days or unfollow them for a time. If it hasn't changed I unfriend them.

@QVCkitty1 I love the, "and cats"
But, I agree with you, all forms of social media are 'challenging'. I have two sassy cats and I do enjoy those cat memes!

I think you are wrong. I have seen when you post something harmless, funny or just plain cute and someone comes for you. It is not justified and you were not asking for it. So that is an example of how it can be toxic. You put out good energy and get poison in return. It can come from friends and relatives too.

I recently "unfollowed " a close friend on FB. She was reposting vile political stuff.Didn't need the aggravation of looking at it.
She recently asked me what I thought about the picture she posted of her grandkids.I told her I didn't see it because I unfollowed her. After I told her why she said she was offended that I did that. I told her that she has every right to post/re post anything she wants. But that I have the right not to see it,period.
I IMO FB has become a cesspool.I don't post anything personal or political ever. I basically just check it once a week.Sometimes I may "like" something posted by friends.

Are you talking about the list of friends you have with FB/Twitter/etc?
