@Tinkrbl44 More than a weatherman! and meteorologist and very well known. He's been reporting for decades and we always watch him.

@shoesnbags - I'm so sorry. I didn't know you had recently lost your DH. And now you have to prepare for this storm alone.
I'm glad you have a generator. That's probably almost a necessity down there.
DS lives across from Audubon Park. He's been in a number of apartments since he went there for school. We've seen two of them. His last one I heard you were all under a tornado warning. I called to see if he had a safe place. He said, "Mom, my whole apartment is a safe place. It's underground." He was only there a year. He likes this one.
Thank you for the links. I will definitely check them out.
It's an unusual day for me today - a day of remembering 9/11, with one eye on the hurricane. I'm not getting much work done.
I love the picture of the sign on the causeway! I think DS sent it to me. He was always interested in the weather, and at one time thought about majoring in meteorology. He changed his mind, but Jim Cantore and someone else whose name I can't remember have been common names in our home for a while!
If you want to watch a funny YT video about him, Google "Running from Jim Cantore."
Stay safe. I will say a prayer for your safety and your peace and comfort in the upcoming days.

@Tinkrbl44 - Everyone has already answered you, but yes, he's an esteemed award-winning meteorologist, known as "the rock star of meteorology."
He has a reputation - if you see him around, things are going to be rough and he is where the "action" will be. I remember reading that he was traveling and stopped for lunch in a town along his way. Some people got really nervous and started making storm preparations, even though it wasn't necessary. ![]()

Whenever there are hurricanes in the NY/NJ area, Jim is here and this has been for many many years.

Updating: Francine is now a Cat 2 storm, moving onshore within the hour. So far it's not bad at all at my house, except that the toilet is bubbling, so we can't flush! Too much water going into the drainage system at one time. @beach-mom

Thanks for the update @shoesnbags! I just talked to DS. His power has been flickering, but it hasn't gone out completely. He said it looks like it's passing out of the area. And he says I don't have to call him any more tonight! ![]()

Praying for you @shoesnbags. I'm glad you have your generator. .DS' power went off last night around 10 p.m. I hope you don't have any water damage.
His apartment is stifling. He said last night wasn't bad, but it was brutal today. One of his friends invited him over tonight. I'm not sure where she lives, but she has power!
The streets near him are bad. He saw some downed power lines.

Our power came back around midnight last night. Yay! Restrictions on water use were lifted this morning as well. Sewer system was overwhelmed by storm waters and we were asked not to use dishwashers, washing machines, etc. until the system could catch up. I'm not in Orleans Parish like your son, but my surburban area was actually hit worse so I'm hoping that your son is finally feeling some AC this morning.
You just never know with hurricanes. This one turned east from its projected path at the last minute and came straight at us. And the huge amount of rain in such a short time made for a flood hazard more than wind damage. We had flooding in the burbs like hasn't been seen in years. My street usually stays dry in all of these weather events but this time the water came up over my lawn and to my front steps. I was getting nervous but then the rain slowed and stopped. Whew!
