Re: New Generations Not Using Top Sheets on the Bed????

We haven't used a top sheet in years. My wife and I each use are own comforter and for years  we sleep opposite each other so her head is at the top of of the bed and my head is at the foot of bed .its a king size bed. She hated if we ended up facing each other breathing in each other. It way seem weird but it works for us. I  the bed every other week.I wash our comforters every few weeks.I love a freshly washwashed comforter with April fresh downy sent in it. I started recently using a half a cup of washing soda in all laundry makes everything smell extra fresh.I told a friend about washing soda and I gave her a boX of it to try .now shshe won't do laundry without it and she Told her family members about it and they love it to.

I'm a top sheet advocate. I just like that cotton sheet next to me. AND it saves me washing the blankets, quilts and comforters more often. My children use the top sheet, but ALL my grands do not use a top sheet. Believe me, I dread washing all those comforters and spreads after they all visit. I'm facing that right now, just after the Easter visit. I don't think those blankets were made to wash so often.

My children tell me the grands feel as though they get all tangled up in the top sheets. Even when I try to sneak them on to the beds, I find them neatly folded next to the beds. Smiley Surprised

I keep trying to imagine how others sleep to get tangled in sheets!  I fall asleep and wake up pretty much in the same position and sheets stay put!😁

@Coastalcarolina This is funny!  I'm the same way and wake up in the same position as how I fell asleep.  Then I roll over and sleep in the new position.

Once when I went on vacation with family, I ended up sleeping with DD.  DH and I started out sharing a cabin on a cruise but halfway through the trip DD switched with him and we shared a cabin.  She was a restless sleeper.  She kept twisting & turning all night!

Re: New Generations Not Using Top Sheets on the Bed????

My husband and I are GenX.  Our parents are from the Silent Generation.  I grew up with a top sheet and he did not.  After we were married I grew tried of listening to him complain about it, so off it went.  When he leaves for a business trip the top sheet goes on the bed.

I sleep with a top sheet, but my young son doesn't. I think it actually makes sense. My husband is always making a mess of the top sheet even with a comforter on the bed which drives me crazy. I might try it the next time I change my bedsheets, hopefully my husband won't make a fuss about it.

DH and I use a top sheet and have for over 50 years.  DS and DDIL on the other hand do not.  They have individual comforters and seemingly it works for them.  DS sleeps like an octopus and needs his own comforter otherwise DDIL would be left in the cold............

Re: New Generations Not Using Top Sheets on the Bed????

I grew up using a top sheet, blanket, and comforter.  That was the standard practice making a bed in our house and I continued the same when I got married.  When I traveled to Germany many years ago, I was introduced to their way of making the bed -  bottom sheet and a lofty down comforter, no top sheet. In the morning, the down comforter would get aired out outdoors before making the bed.  I loved sleeping that way.  I tried to copy it when I returned home but DH didn't like it.  I'm pretty sure our kids are still traditional and use a top sheet.

I absolutely need a top sheet. I wouldn't want my body rubbing up against a comforter or blanket all night.

@lgfan  Or, do you put on a sock, then the other sock? Or a sock and a shoe then a sock and the other shoe?
