I like this!  Smiley Happy   It's something I've always done.  It's like you acknowledge their existence and maybe a smile will make their day better.

Conversely, however, I was at the store this morning.  As I went to where the carts are, to snag a cart, there was an older guy there facing me.  As I always do, I did the 'smile and nod' thing.  He just stood there giving me a dirty look.  It was so weird.

But then, when I went to enter the store, I saw a dollar bill just outside the entrance.  Since I had entered pretty much right after him, I thought maybe he had dropped it.  So I looked for him and said 'excuse me, sir - might you have dropped a dollar?' and held it up.

He looked for a second and then said that he had not. But at least he got out of that funk he seemed to be in a minute earlier.   Dude must have been having a bad day or something.  Hopefully, his day got better.

Nothing like a soft purring feline laying his head on my cheek. That's my guy Toby. Not too many of our many felines over the decades loved being "cheek to cheek". Our all black Toby, for some reason, picked our home to share his abundance of love. He prefers this to getting a hand petting him.
