First of all, I want to apologize for the awkwardness of this topic, but in the past when we've tried to have a dog we've had females so I'm new to this particular issue. We brought our dog home close to 3 mos. ago. He's turned a yr. old since he's been with us. He's smart, can understand and follow basic obedience commands as well as make certain associations with lots of other words. He engages me in several short play sessions each day (tug of war, catch, or fetch). At least once a day I'll get down on the floor to brush him, rough house, rub his tummy. There are times when I want to actually hug him, but I'm wondering if that's a mistake. As much as humans convey love that way, I'm wondering if he's taking it another way because for the last week or so once I'm done playing and in the process of getting up, he's trying to mount me! I'm wondering if there's something I'm doing that's making him think I'm "interested"? He doesn't try it with my husband so is it a scent thing? Is he trying to donimate me? Does my hug appear to him like I'm trying to do "that" to him? Our dog was neutered as a puppy so I'm kind of suprised by all of this, I thought that instinct wouldn't develop in a neutered dog. Now I need to know what to do to get him to stop. When he does it, I will push him away and say "off", but the next day it's the same old thing again. Do I have to stop playing on the floor with him?
TIA
