Carmie, I have an 89 year old uncle who suffers from moderate dementia. His grocery lists are always the same. He goes to the store about 3-4 times a weeks. Not because he needs anything, but because it has become a habit. Sometimes he forgets to dispose of his grocery list and leaves it on the kitchen table and then thinks he needs to go shopping again.
When we checked his food storage cabinets in the garage and basement we discovered 28-2 liter bottles of Pepsi, 10 boxes of cereal, 10 large jars of jelly, soup and pasta sauce galore. We had to pitch a lot of the items as they had long exceeded expiration. When asked about it, he justified it by saying "well people buy this stuff and bring it over to me". No one visits him except me.
Dealing with him is like the movie Groundhog Day. It is so sad.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this with your uncle.
It just breaks your heart to see them decline.

Those of you that have never had to deal with this sort of thing are lucky
I don't think a woman ,she has known and loved ,her entire life, is going to suddenly become another sort of individual, unless something is desperately wrong with her.
None of us know , how we will end our remaining days. We may need the same sort of compassion, from others. We could end up being a person who steals cookies.

Maybe just tag a note to her door and say, I hope you enjoyed the cookies. If she's coming down with Dementia, she may not recall, and that might open a door to discussion between you two. She could have thought you were gifting that, if not, you were able to put together other bags, thank Heavens. Sorry she did that. Or maybe she just misunderstood. Who knows.

Or taking care of the person who "steals" cookies.

@Allegheny, Bless your heart, what a caring person you are. I'm so glad when someone in that situation has a caring person like you around. Thank you.
