Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

Well, I totally agree with the OP.  I tend to do things in a creative way and I get annoyed when someone copies them.

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery to some, but not to others.  If you can't figure out a pleasing way to paint your house, hire a professional; don't copy your next door neighbor.

With all the paint brands available, I doubt the color matches yours exactly. Even so, I wouldn't care because it indicates they like my color choice.

@AuntG  You are right about paint brands, believe me I looked at them all before I chose my colors even solicitating advice from experts. I spent time making my choice and I guess I saved them time and imagination in choosing the same color. If the color isn't exact, you would never know it. I'm over it, but still think it was the wrong thing to do on their part.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

[ Edited ]

About two years ago I decided to paint my home. I live in tract housing in the suburbs, which for those unfamiliar with the term  are all similar homes with slight variations. For instance I live in a one story but some of the models are two stories, number of bedrooms can differ, as well as the garage (2 or 3 car).

The sun is brutally hot and it was just washing out the color of all of the homes, slowly neighbors for the last few years have been repainting.

The point of saying this is that when I picked the color of my house I copied a neighbor that was several houses down and on a different street. I actually took my painter there to make sure he could pick the right paint samples for me to choose from. I did it because I love the color that they chose, so take it as a form of flattery.

I would not let it upset me.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

If you are friendly with them I think they should have approached you and asked-or at the very least-informed you that this was going to happen. And in your position I think I would change the door color. I don't blame you at all, that is upsetting.

Hi  @Biftu   Woman Happy

Seems you have very good taste.   Certainly your neighbors thought so.  Otherwise, why would they copy you.  hmm

Perhaps your house has a hankering for another "Good Taste Touch" from you!

I dont have imagination, or good taste, so I have no ideas what that further individualized, "house hankering, good taste touch" that would be, in order to further customize your lovely house & home!

The occasional uber paint decorated, houses in Cape May may have great ideas, for displaying individualized nice homes.  Brace yrself.  Some are famously,  *quite* individualized.  heh

Good luck!!

I guess I would be a little upset, especially if it is a distinct color and your houses are very close to each other.  Hopefully they will use different accent colors.  Otherwise, I would think the street view would look odd to have two houses next to each other be the same color.

@Biftu  On the other hand, your neighbors are painting it a color that you love, since you painstakingly chose it.  Wouldn't you rather see that each time you left your house?  What if their choice was some horrendous color?

Would you be happier?

@Pezzie They stole her idea, they assumed her identity, they took intellectual property and erased the pride of something unique she created.   Happier?

I would be upset only because people are not going to know who had the idea first.  I am sure the neighbors are going to say that it was their idea first and the OP copied them.

Agreed!  In the overall scheme of things it's not earth shattering but one is still allowed to get annoyed by petty nuisances!  ....and actually discuss it here.
