Just as a follow up on this house paint debacle. The next door neighbors that painted their house the same color as mine just came over and gave me a hug and apologized for painting their house the same color as mine.  They said it looked bluer in the can and they felt bad when they saw it on the house.  What's done is done, but I feel better that they mentioned it and apologized.  All's well.

Thanks for letting us know. It seems it wasn't done intentionally which makes it easier to swallow. It was nice of them to apologize.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

Just saw the colors that the OP painted her house. All I can say is that I had two houses that we flipped two years ago in different parts of the City painted that color. One was agreeable grey with black shutters and burgandy door. I don't remember the other shade of grey but it was a little darker.

I've always loved any shade of grey. I must say the houses sold in no time at all. I must say the Contractor irrated me a few times by insisting that the color of the doors was red. It was fun though. If I mentioned the houses he would say, you mean the ones with the red door and of course I would respond BURGANDY.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

I live in a new subdivision and never paid attention to what color the houses are painted.  Looked out this morning after reading this Thread and saw that my neighbor across from me has a house that's painted grey, black roof, black shutters and a light burgandy door and  black garage door. Never paid attention before. I somehow prefer a bright colored burgandy door. You can't miss it.

Of course so many of the threads on here are not earth shattering but that doesn't mean they don't matter.

I'm glad they are here because it makes it interesting.

I sure don't want to talk about earth shattering world problems all the time.

And the OP never said it was

so I wish too people would not slam a posters opinions and make her feel small or "silly" about it.

Just to say how each would feel is enough, which most people did in a nice way.

@Biftu,

I love the colors you chose-very elegant and classic.

If that neighbor is right next door, yes I think it will look strange-2 the same side by side and the rest of the others different colors would make me think they are family and meant to buy the same house or something!Woman Surprised

@on the bay  Thanks. Yes, they are right next door. I used to be able to give directions to people who had never been to house by saying it's the grey house on the right. Now they'll say, which grey one?!

@Biftu  in some areas most people would say it's the house with the burgandy door, but if the one next door also has a burgandy door that won't work. No matter the color of the house it's usually the color of the door that identifies the house.

@Love to Run

Also, this has become super silly really.

I just responded to your post because you said something in it that I had mentioned in a previous post.....that's all, no hard feelings. I enjoy reading your posts.

  Also, I don't see how any of my posts can be interpreted as me being against anyone expressing their opinions. I actually enjoy reading others opinions. If the world were all like me, it would be super boring, believe me.

@GingerHead  I just put a sticker on my water bottle bottle that says "No one is you and that is your power".

No you are not boring at all. I've enjoyed reading your Posts.

@Biftu with the utmost respect perhaps you should have considered adding in to your opening post with what you said later to @new nickname: "I happen to be an excellent neighbor.   "I'm very blessed to live in a great neighborhood where everyone looks out for each other.  We have been through good and bad times together. There will be no "war" over paint by any means.  These people are new neighbors who seem very nice.  I actually had them over for coffee when they moved in.  I was simply disappointed they copied my house paint."  I think your leaving out these details left it open for interpretation that you were HIGHLY upset and led to some of the more "heated" responses.  Also you said the houses are "similar" but they are not the same.  So in the end you're "annoyed" but that's it, correct? 😊

@eadu4  I am annoyed.  I never said I was highly upset. It took me by surprise someone would do that or even want their house painted like mine since they are right next door.  I was quite surprised by a few of the posts.  Actually  I was out trimming this morning  and my neighbor across the street came over just to chat.  After a while she mentioned she was surprised to see my new neighbors painted their house just like mine. She was surprised at this too and said guess they just don't care.  What bothers some may not bother others, no need to be nasty.  I'm past it.  What is done is done.

@Biftu  grey is the "in color" for the past few years. They could have chosen another shade of grey and a different color door. Would that have made you feel better about it? I have done different shades of grey in different parts of the City. I love grey. One grey has a black door and it looks great. Only two have burgandy doors.

@Biftu  isn't that something? That's why I always buy the sample first so I can see the shade I need. Also when buying paint there are so many brochures that show you what it would look like and also you can see it on the computer. Plus a dot of the pain is usually on the top of the can once it's mixed.

So what color is her door?

I would probably take it as a compliment.  If I wanted my house to stand out, I would change the color of my front door.  My bro has a purple front door and it is eyecatching!

@kaydee50  I love the different color doors. My friend lives a few blocks over and her door is pink. There are only about 20 houses there and they got together and decided to have different color doors, but no two alike. There is a lovely teal color and I have seen the purple also and a sunny yellow. They just started so all the doors aren't painted yet.

My new next door neighbors are painting their house the EXACT same color as mine. When I had my house painted I made sure the color was different than others in my neighborhood.  I understand it's their house and they can do what they want, but I find it upsetting.  Maybe I shouldn't let it bother me but it does.

@Biftu

I haven't read every post, so sorry if this suggestion is redundant ...

How long have these new neighbors been there?   Have you met and spoken with them yet?  If so, perhaps ask how they arrived at that color.

If you don't wish to speak to them about it, and it still really bothers you, there's no reason you can't come up with some "tweaking" later ... change the color of the front door and window boxes, for instance.  A different, free-standing mail box in red is another idea ... just suggestions, since I don't know what your home looks like.

Even if they do everything EXACTLY like your home, when it's completed, you can later make "improvements" to yours so the homes aren't identical.
