I have 3 year old American Bulldog and he is wonderful! There is only one problem, we do not have a fenced in back yard so we have to take him on walks. That would not be a problem except for the fact that he wants to walk at least 3 blocks before he finds a place to do his business.
Many of my friends dogs simply walk out of the house, go in their designated stop, and come back in. Not my dog! I have asked them all how they have done this and they say that their dogs have just always done that.
I have tried walking in to a tree outside and stood there for 10 minutes telling him to, "Go Potty" he looks at me like I am stupid.
Then I had the theory that maybe he was not ready so I eliminated a couple of his usual walk times. Yeah he still wanted to walk forever.
This is a behavor that cannot continue. I have small children and I have to take my dog out when I get up and once again before my dh gets home. Obviously I cannot go foar from the house and leave the children unattended, nor can I bring them with me.
So has anyone been though this or know how to train him to stop doing this?
Thank you in advance.
