Need help planning a Cape Cod vacation!!

I am going to Cape Cod for a Girlfriendz getaway....there will be 4 women traveling.

I have never been to the Cape before. We will be going at the end of September, and staying three nights.

Can someone recommend a nice hotel or B&B? I don't know where to start. When I looked on the internet, some of the places looked dumpy. We would like a nice location where we can walk to beach, or shops and resturants.

A plus would be to get a Cottage, or a suite where there would be 4 beds so we can all stay together. Or else we will have to get two rooms...with 2 double beds each. Most of the B&B have King beds.

I usually stay at nice hotels, when I can get a discount. I have never stayed at a B&B before, but since we are all very social, I thought it might be nice to say at one.

Thanks!!!

You need to decide where on the Cape you'd like to stay. Once you zero in on a location, it will be easier to recommend lodging.

If it is an active hurricane season, late September could be prime time.

Re: Need help planning a Cape Cod vacation!!

We like to go toward the outer Cape area and have had good experiences at The Ships Knees Inn, The Parsonage B&B and the Cove Motel all of which are in Orleans MA. The nearby beach is Nauset Beach which is part of the national protected shoreline. I think you would be happy with any of these. Check out their websites for more info. The Cape is not, for the most part, highly commercialized. They have managed to keep out a lot of the high profile big hotel chains, restaurants etc. Consequently there are a number of small, mediocre privately owned motels interspersed with very lovely accommodations and restaurants. The nice part of being a tourist there is the ease with which you can travel from one little town to the other. Enjoy!

Cape Cod covers a large area you need to decide what you want to do and where you want to stay.

I love Chatham and they have an amazing chowder restaurant there

Re: Need help planning a Cape Cod vacation!!

Hi, QVCchick, When I am planning a trip, I go to the site TripAdvisor. The site lists major attractions and locations. When you have read that, you can, say for Chatham, look at all the hotels in Chatham ranked by reviews. They also have restaurant reviews for every city, ranked from 1 down to infinity. Try the Trip Advisor sites for your own town first, to get a sense of how to navigate and to see whether you find the reviews for familiar sights accurate.

Since everyone has different likes and dislikes, it might be a good idea to sit down with your friends and check out the Cape Cod possibilities together.

I have quite a few family members that I visit on the Cape but stay with them, so don't know about the hotels at all. If you want to dabble your toes in the ocean (though it is not likely to be swimming weather), you should know that the south side of the Cape is where the water is most pleasant and the beaches are nicest. The boating people often prefer the North side of the cape, very pretty and scenic, with lovely marinas. Rocky shores sometimes. (I really know the s. side better, so I am sure others can speak of the northern side. Some of my favorites are Harwich Port, Falmouth, and Sandwich (the part nearest the bridges). On the outer Cape, I think they call it, there is Provincetown . . . not my favorite place but it is a famous tourist attraction and right at the tip of the Cape.

Anyhow, see what the thousands of Trip Adviser folks are saying about the Cape. I always learn a lot on that site.

I agree with burnsite. Trip Advisor is a great website and will give you excellent advice. I have used that site for lodging information and restaurants in a vacation spot in another state. Their reviews appeared to be spot on.

Re: Need help planning a Cape Cod vacation!!

If you will be staying on the east side of the Cape (Chatham/Harwich/Orleans), I too suggest the Chatham Bars Inn. If you stay to the west, Falmouth has lovely B & B's near the town square. The Sea Crest Beach Resort in W. Falmouth is also lovely. Have a wonderful trip.

It's hard to narrow it down, when I don't know one are from the next on the Cape!

I looked into Chatham Bars...which looks excellent, but it's over $500 a night!

I'm looking for recommondations for a hotel or B&B that is nice, good location, and clean.

Re: Need help planning a Cape Cod vacation!!

I was going to suggest looking into renting a house, but it's probably on the high end in terms of cost and I see above the $500 a night was too expensive for you. It still might be worth it because the end of September may be considered off season and the rates might be lower.

I went to the Cape with my family a couple of years ago and we rented a house. I think it worked out to $500-$700 a night, but that was with 9 of us (3 couples and 3 kids - 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms)
