Yes you have to be actively looking for a job and no you do not have to take the first job offered.

You do have to show proof your are looking. Phone numbers, interviews etc. You have to be able to work. You do not have to take the first job that is offered.

What is it exactly that you're looking for? You came here for advice and most everyone has been helpful. If people have misread what you wrote there are ways to tell them that other than "you can't read". You are being rude and you're attacking posters and it's unwarranted. I don't doubt that this attitude you are displaying now (and have displayed in the past) is restricted to this board.
I wish you luck in sorting your situation out.

OMG----I cannot believe that this is still going back and forth.
OK, you wanted opinions here you go. Return ALL company property NOW. Computers, files etc, it belongs to them. You have been paid for the work you have done. Having it in your possession does not make it yours. Wish them well and offer them any help you can provide in the future. This may lead to a position as a consultant or at the very least give you with some additional funds while looking for a new position. Ask for letter of recommendation and go file for unemployment. You can file now so you paperwork is in order and you can start to receive your checks when eligible. Take a few days to think about what you would like to do going forward. Be an adult and move on, there are other opportunities available.

I was fired once, and it was my fault. I was younger and immature and thought that because I was right, I was justified in being difficult. Because I had been a hard worker, they were agreeable about offering me unemployment. This isn't always the case - your employer has to agree to the conditions of Unemployment Insurance. You might want to sweeten up a little to ensure that they are agreeable in this regard. In the long run, UI will be more lucrative than a small severance package. Put yourself in their place, having financial problems and needing to let go a long time loyal employee is not easy. However, having dealt with you before, Oxox, I'd say that empathy might not come easy to you.

Their is no place to return the computer to there is no office and has not been a physical office for 11 year, my only option would be to pack the computer up and sent to their home which I do not think they would like, sheesh does any one read anything these days

Why is it necessary to bring up a previous situation, I thought you were better than than but I guess NOT
Keep you emotions to yourself and out of my post, I started out asking a hypothetical question, I have not remotely suggested anything of this sort to my former employer's, I have stated numerous times.
My first thought was how do I get their stuff back to them, 11 years of files is huge.

You make it sound like their stumbling and bumbling around their offices scratching their heads, banging their chests.
I can bet it's calmer than that.....
Either way, give them back what's theirs. You'll have to drive there. I doubt they're sending you a limo.

You want to know what I would do? I'd call them, tell them their company stuff is at my house, come and get it. Period.
Then once you are able, after you get your 2 weeks severance money, I'd file for unemployment.
Done.
