Need a Light (color) Fruitcake Recipe

Husband desperately wants a light fruitcake with the emphasis on the cake and not on the fruit.

I'm thinking of using dried fruits instead of the candied ones if that would work, but he wants a light colored cake and more cake than most ready to buy items have. He liked the fruit, but loves the cake.

Any suggestions?
