I did it online and it was easy peasy.

 

Go to Medicare.gov and set up your account. 

Go to SocialSecurity.gov and set up a MySocialSecurity account.

They will have options for you to apply for benefits. 

 

I never had to make a phone call. The local office called me once during the process.

We went in person to our local office. They have appointments which we made online & wait time was short & agent very helpful & knowledgeable. Our situation was a bit complicated but sign up was easy & process seamless
