Re: Need Advice on How to Handle a Neighbor Situation Please

Hi, Everyone!  Wow!  So many responses ~ I appreciate all of them!  One thing I want to mention that I didn't last night was that we are the owners of three LARGE beautiful dogs.  I love dogs ~ the difference is when our dogs bark we bring them inside ~ whether it is 10 AM or 10 PM.  I understand that not everyone wants to listen to the barking.  Many have small children that may be sleeping, etc.  As for the picket situation I decided to let it go ~ this time.  I was happy to read so many of you understand why I feel the way I do.  The picket was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.  Should he decide to "mow his weeds" in the future I will go outside and politely ask him to not mow so close to our fence.  Hopefully that was the first and last time something like that happens.

I decided to buy some potted plants for our back patio today.  I buy hanging baskets and just cut off the hangar ~ instant, easy color!  I am focusing on the beauty around me and refuse to let anyone ruin what I have worked so hard for.  I sat my our pond, fed the fish and listened to the birds chirping.  Last night I had two male Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds at our feeder!  Well, one was on the feeder and the other was on the little hummingbird perch I put out waiting his turn.  Life is good ~ I hope all of you are having a good day as well.  And thanks again for all opinions & advice!  :-)

Re: Need Advice on How to Handle a Neighbor Situation Please

We had a neighbor whose dog "got out" because he didn't have his collar on for the invisible fence. That was her excuse, when in fact, the dog got loose all the time. It decided it liked to use my yard as its personal toilet. One night I was in my yard with my dog and this d*mn dog came up behind me and scared the you know what out of me. Another night DH took our little guy out - it was too dark to see the whole yard - and he comes in the house and all I smell is dog sh*t. I went nuts. The next time I saw the dog go, I scooped it up and threw it on their walkway. That didn't deter them, so when it happened again, I banged on the door and told them I was calling animal control and I also called the HOA. I have asked many people to not walk their dog on my lawn - my dog isn't allowed to go on anyone's lawn. Sorry this was long!

@MaggieMack ~ Your post made me chuckle.  The irony is their dogs aren't the ones wanting to do their business on our lawn ~ it was their 4-year-old child!  (Nope, I'm not making this stuff up)!  Before all the trouble began we were all out front chatting and their daughter came running over, lifted her skirt and was ready to well, you know.  I had a minor panic attack and asked her to please do her business on her own lawn and she did!  I can honestly say I've never experienced something like that before and will be perfectly content if I never do again!

My right hand to God - I owned dogs for 30 years and have NEVER taken one to someone else's lawn to potty. I am totally appalled that people seem to think it is fine to do  this down here in Florida. Lots of people have dogs where we camp in Pa but they use the dog walk areas.I just can't understand why everyone here in Florida seems to feel this is ok to do. Our HOA actually purchased property and then had it cut, fenced in and landscaped  with gravel paths just for this purpose, and yet they don't walk the dogs there. It's pretty in there, flowers, benches etc.

Loud noises, and any obnoxious noise is wrong and an imposition on others.  Hefty fines would help a lot of cities and towns in generating revenue to pay for many things that are needed.

I had to read this three times to try to figure out what the heck you are saying.

The "youth" of the 60's and 70's are the 60 and 70 year olds of today.  In other words, YOU.

So where are YOU now?

I believe you.  I was the same way.

I would be too embarrassed to stop with my dog and let that happen.  When we took her for a walk, it was after she went.

She was extremely shy and would go behind our potting shed, to do both.  If you walked behind there, she would look at you with sad eyes, like 'please, where's my privacy'.

We took her on long roadtrips with us a lot and always had to take her into woods or at least a little grove for her to go.

@Lucky Charm

I had to laugh as I used to have a male dog who liked his privacy when  he pooped!  He would always wait for some tall grass or go behind a bush!  My son and I used to say "Fred needs to find the 'private potty'!"

Re: Need Advice on How to Handle a Neighbor Situation Please

Wow..yes I have never regretted our decision to move out of a HOA onto 11 acres in the woods with NO neighbors now to deal with. We love the free roaming critters like hummingbirds, deer, fox, turkey who are now our closest neighbors we share our woods with. Some people DO NOT like dogs, others are scared of them and shouldnt have to deal with the barking, excrement and antics of dogs or dog owners. I am one of "those people" who do not care to own a dog even though the majority do. Is my decision, is not that i dont like them and is my property and I shouldnt have to clean up the mess dogs or people leave behind. Is why we sold our home in a development. Really floors me when I have overnight visitors who get miffed upon my NO reply when they ask me if they can bring their furry friend for a sleep over I am told the animal actually "sleeps with" the owners. No fur on my beds, no way no how. I think to expect me to allow an animal I dont own to sleep on my bed is an entitlement I dont put up with. I know others do but what they do in their own house is none of my business. WOW the thing about the child doing thier business really makes me SMH. Yikes yes I do not regret going semi off grid.

I guess there are advantages to have a xeriscaped yard of rocks.  Nobody want to walk or pee on it.  We also don't have many people walking dogs as everyone has a large fenced yard.
