Myrrh is for gum disease healing/prevention.

It has a bitter taste, so little is used...and if ingested, might cause vomiting.

I went to a few vet sights..and they suggested myrrh for skin/ear infections, but didn’t see anything for tooth care...but then tooth care for animals is generally not mentioned.  I would check w/ your vet, just to be sure.

@sidsmom  Thank you so much for taking the time to post this.  I will indeed look at the video.  I am always on the lookout for something more natural.  I don't know if it is necessary to use flouride a couple times a day.

My DH has a lot of oral issues due to dry mouth from a bone marrow transplant.  I know this doesn't address this, but hey, if it is a healthier way to clean your teeth and mouth, we will give it a go.  So many things make his mouth sore.  He uses a Sonicare, but I don't like the feel of them, so I have stuck with a manual brush.  I will put in an order and get this experiement underway.

Again, thanks.

@sidsmom and @goldensrbest  My sister is using Myrrh on her little Yorkie because he is having terrible dental issues.  She just began using it.  He is having surgery this week to have his teeth cleaned and to have several removed.  She plans to use it as part of his aftercare and as a preventive going forward.  I can ask her where she got it and what form she uses if you are interested.  I believe it is an oil or a gel.

I've been using it for years, but it does contain an ingredient that should be avoided--carrageenan.

Tom's started as a good brand.........then Colgate bought them.  Never used it again.

Figures.  I'm going to try Ugly By Nature next.

@goldensrbest  I text her and will let you know what she says when she gets back to me.  It may not be right away.  She read about using this on a forum for dogs with dental problems.  Apparently, Yorkies are known for having bad/loose teeth.  She learned the hard way, but is being diligent going forward.

I am going to make the toothpaste mentioned in Sidsmom's post.  I am going to order Myrrh gum powder in the capsule form and just open a couple and use it that way.  I buy my stuff from Vitacost.

I will let you know when I hear back.

I have tried all kinds of natural toothpaste and they are just ok. I guess it's fine for someone who has great teeth and no problems with their gums.

Okay, here's the scoop, @goldensrbest.  She uses a Myrrh tincture that is suspended in a glycerin palm oil base.  She purchased it from Hawaii Pharm.com.

She said not to use a tincture suspended in alcohol on an animal.  I think I would try mixing an opened capsule of Myrrh in coconut oil.  I would taste it first to make sure it isn't too bitter strong.  Her dog let's her rub his teeth and gums with it.

I love Vitacost and also go through Mr. Rebates.
