National Park Service Happy 100th Birthday

I saw a blip about this on my local news.  I wanted to check it out.  There are some free entry days left during this year's anniversary:

The National Park Service turns 100 years old in 2016 and we want everyone to join the party! On 16 days in '16, all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone.

Mark your calendar for these entrance fee–free dates in 2016:
  • January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • April 16 through 24: National Park Week
  • August 25 through 28: National Park Service Birthday
  • September 24: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

I took advantage of this today, I too say a local news story a few days ago. I took my mother and sister to a local National Park here in town....Fort Caroline. It was a really nice day and we walked the trails. Thanks for the additional dates, I will mark my calendar. We have 4 very close National Parks.

I have been enjoying the programs on CSPAN3 highlighting various historic sites across the country that are managed by the National Park Service.  Very educational also.

National Geographic Channel (if you get it) has good programming like this too.  Check it out!

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) -

Both fire and ice are hindering travel into Yellowstone National Park on the National Park Service's centennial anniversary.

Authorities closed a portion of the Beartooth Highway Wednesday night due to snow and ice from a summer snowstorm. The popular mountain roadway runs from Red Lodge, Montana, over the Beartooth Pass to Yellowstone's Northeast Entrance.

Montana Department of Transportation officials say crews are working to re-open the highway Thursday.
