March 3 is National Anthem Day - FosterFollyNews.com

Today is National Anthem Day, which commemorates the day the United States adopted "The Star-Spangled Banner" as its National Anthem.

if you are ever in the baltimore area, FORT MCHENRY is a must see.

"The valiant defense of the fort during the Battle of Baltimore on September 13-14, 1814 inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words that became the U.S. national anthem. The fort's history holds many other stories too, from the Civil War to WWII."

@sunshine45 ...we used to watch fireworks over the harbor from Ft. McHenry up on the hill.  Amazing view. My sister lived in Ridgley's Delight which is right near Camden Yards so we would walk over.   Fun times!

Thanks for the reminder!

Didn't realize it wasn't until 1931 that it became the National Anthem.

I wish more TV sports events, when in Baltimore, would show Fort McHenry and speak about the Star Spangled Banner as a point of interest / history.

That flag is on view at National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

Made in Baltimore, Maryland, in July-August 1813 by flagmaker Mary Pickersgill.

@sunshine45  Fort McHenry is definitely a worthwhile visit. For anyone visiting, the orientation film at the begining is a MUST! Not a dry eye in the house.

ETA: For those with children or grandchildren, participating in the raising of the flag is memorable.
