My transistor radio, I loved that thing.

TV used to go off the air at midnight. They would play the National anthem, sign off, and then there would be nothing but static until the morning.
Even radio stations went off air. Every teenager in my area of the country listened to WLS Chicago on their transistor radio.(We only had AM stations.) At midnight, Art Roberts would sign off with "God bless you, and until we meet again, excelsior!"
