chains on tires during winter snowstorms

Depends on where you are. In California, they're still something people carry and use when driving up to Tahoe for a ski trip.

Lots of people don't have 4-wheel drive or all-weather tires because they don't need them the majority of the time, so chains are super handy when you're headed for a ski week and get caught in a snowstorm. The CA highway patrol has signs up saying when they're required and when they are, guys pop up all along the roadside offering to put your chains on for you or even sell you emergency chains at ridiculous costs. They call them Chain Monkeys.

Sanitary belt(hope this isn't inappropriate)

I remember in the 80's my sister and I were very resistant to the new stay on pads. We were in a drug store and sis wanted a new sanitary belt. When she asked the young clerk where they were, the clerk replied, "What's a sanitary belt?" We couldn't believe it! The store didn't have any and so goes progress....

Drug store

When I was still teaching and would say "drug store" sometimes students would ask why I said that rather than CVS, Walgreens, RiteAide, etc.(they didn't say pharmacy). They said it sounded like a place where you went to buy drugs(illegal).

Five and dime store

Vinyl is cool again now, thanks to the hipsters. But kids today don't know what CDs are.

UHF channels on analog tv. Back home in New York this is where you could find Spanish speaking programming.

Iris Chacon!  Menudo had their own tv show, too.  Loved that and Degrassi junior High.

Did anyone use frozen OJ cans for curlers? Or was that just a PA thing?

@PA Mom-mom

A previous poster mentioned using vegetable tins.  When I read that I thought about the orange juice cans, so it wasn't just PA.  It was happening in CA, too. Woman LOL
