Re: Name a nice surprise you had recently

My sweet hubby of many years got a beautiful ring for me. He knows I love chocolate diamonds, so he searched til he found just the right one. It was not that expensive of a ring, but it is worth so much to me because he spent time and kept it a secret, which he is terrible at. Smiley Happy

Re: Name a nice surprise you had recently

This happened yesterday, after a rather taxing day at work.  There was a small package from one of my brothers, who like me loves old books. All my siblings know I tear into a package the minute I receive it.

It is a beautiful little bound edition, perfect condition, of a slim little book . . . from 1797.

Not that it is worth $$$ but to me it is priceless. It is wonderful to hold something printed that long ago, and hold it my hands and read it.  Better than time travel.

As always, a lovely thread, @cherry!

@Burnsite  you remind me of the lady in Charing Cross Road that loved all old books, and got them from England. She became a penfriend  ,with the gentleman that supplied her with books

If you have never seen this movie, I think you would love it

Re: Name a nice surprise you had recently

(long story short)

My husband ordered an anniversary present, we never received it.  The Company needed to wait an "X" amount of days to make a claim.  The claim was made, re-ordered the item (at original price) and it's been sent overnight and is on the delivery truck.

@MyGirlsMom  just for you, I will tell the rest of my story. The gentleman that bought our meal .was a man of color, we are white

It shows the goodwill of many, in a time when we only seem to read negative things

I got a Christmas card from a Pa. friend who never sent me one before.  To me every Christmas card is like a small gift, so I am pleased when I get one.

@151949 ~ What a great way to explain it, "every Christmas card is like a small gift."  I feel the same way about it😊

I made it back up north for the holidays with my only delay being 30 minutes late out of Sarasota due to fog. I was far, far more concerned about the blowing znow and sub zero temps in SW Michigan than the fog but everything went just fine.

Re: Name a nice surprise you had recently

I went to the grocery store this week to pick up things for my mom, and for my teacher daughters classroom party.   One of the shoppers in the store was a woman about my age in a wheelchair, with 2 family members assisting her.

We reached the checkout lanes about the same time; I was on the right side, and she was on the left, as our "helpers" emptied our carts.   I had grabbed the 12 pack of Sprite from the bottom of my cart, and was waiting for an empty spot to open up on the counter, so I could lay it down.

I noticed the woman was trying to get the attention of her 2 helpers.  Next thing I knew, the young woman approached me saying her aunt wanted to pay for my Sprite!  There was no declining this offer; the young woman insisted I let her do this, as her aunt enjoys doing this type of thing for others, and it means so much to her.  I hugged and thanked the woman, and we wished each other a Merry Christmas, and then the tears started rolling down my face.

That single act of kindness has touched me to the core this holiday season.   The smile on that woman's face, took me back to my childhood and the looks of pure joy and delight on my grandparents faces when we were with them at Christmas.   My grandparents helped a lot of people, and I have always found causes to support in their memory.  This kindness coming back to me at this special time of the year was taken as a message from them, and my heart is smiling!
