Because it's probably true, that's why....
You are correct -- Cosby (if he's suing them) has *the burden of proof* that it's slander.
Somehow, I tend to believe some of the allegations...also, to me, his attempt at rehabilitating "his image" is beyond strange.

Many times the rapist is the father or uncle or brother. Sometimes it's a religious leader, there is no guaranteed safe place.
That's why so many Catholic priests and football coach Jerry Sandusky were so successful in victimizing young boys .... they were "trustworthy" people .... or so the parents thought.
Oh, and many times the attempted rapist is a long-time Boyfriend (of 2 years) who "feels" it's (his) time to 'consummate the relationship' by using a date-drug on his "loved one" (GF), and I was a victim.
He was sick, creepy, and a possessive stalker -- THAT is what he was but his attempt failed ! LOVE had nothing to do with him nor his actions ! If my Dad knew about it, he would have killed him...I kicked my BF to the curb and distanced my friendships/relationships with guys for 8 months after THAT experience, because I couldn't trust the male species. It took a lot for me to be able to talk to guys after that and, fortunately, I met my DH about a year later after the incident.
But, it took a long time for me to tell him about my former BF; it's NOT a memory that one wants to "share" or "revisit".

People in authority were ALWAYS the ones I watched most closely when my kids were little, because they are so often the ones who use their position to take advantage.
I never automatically trusted anybody with my kids!

I taught my daughter NOT to trust authority, but rather to trust herself and all her father and I taught her.
I stressed that people in authority (teachers, a principal, a minister...) might tell her to do something that made her uncomfortable or that she knew was wrong. In that case, she was to say NO, and tell them to call her mother right away.
So one day in middle school, a dangerous situation came up. She told the VP who said he would take care of it, for her to get to the office and stay there in safety. The principal saw her there, told her to get back to the playground. She said no, she was to stay in the office and not move, and she gave the principal my number.
Later, the VP told everyone she most likely saved lives that day. By saying NO.

Attractive young women who accept invitations to party overnight at Hefner's playhouse probably find themselves in all sorts of interesting tableaux as the evening wears on.

Yeah, but this really has nothing to do with Cosby's criminal activities. ![]()
