Myanmar 7.7Earthquake

[ Edited ]

At least 1600 killed and estimated as many as 10,000 could be deceased.

Aid arriving but the devastation is heart breaking.

Puts some things in perspective. The poor people 😞

Re: Myanmar 5.1 Earthquake

[ Edited ]

@Cakers3 Multiple news outlets reported that the earthquake registered 7.7 on the Richter Scale.  It was followed a few minutes later by a smaller quake which may be the 5.1 that you mention.

I've only heard one report,  on ABC News, of an undersea volcanic eruption in the South Pacific that resulted in tsumani warnings for the entire West Coasts of North and South America.

I heard a well-respected volcanologist say it was the most powerful eruption she'd ever seen recorded.

With the volcanic eruptions in the US, makes one wonder what's going on in the Ring of Fire?

Although you still hear "Richter" scale now it isn't the one that is preferred by many now.  Huge aftershocks are to be expected.

The thing to worry about is that first reported one a foreshock.  That scares me.  It is horrible and that part of the world is becoming more active now.

Just heard about a 7.1 earthquake on island of Tonga in Polynesia.  A tsumami warning has been issued.

What is going on?
